This fall semester, the University of Kentucky Pigman College of Engineering - Paducah Campus welcomed 54 incoming first-year students — the largest first-year class  in program history.

The Paducah Campus, which offers bachelor’s degrees in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and computer engineering technology, was established 27 years ago to develop and retain engineering talent in the Western Kentucky region.

Today, its impact on the region is stronger than ever with 100% of graduates being hired within three months and 70% of graduates remaining in the area after graduation. In addition, nearly all Paducah Campus students participate in industrial internships as undergraduates.

“The area is experiencing a significant industrial expansion as a result of the National Energy and AI initiatives,” said Y. Charles Lu, the H.E. Katterjohn Professor in Engineering and director of the Paducah Campus. “So, we are now seeing an unprecedented demand for engineers.”

In addition to record growth in its incoming class, the Paducah Campus has also increased its faculty to support the continued growth of its programs. This semester marked a record number of faculty for the Paducah Campus — a 30% increase from last year.

“All that positive growth allows the campus to do more for industries and communities across the region,” said Lu.

The Paducah Campus credits its successes in growth to intentional relationship-building, highly personalized student support, and expanded outreach through programs with area schools, communities and industries.
